Jagged Alliance is back and it is better than ever before.
Jagged Alliance 3 is one of the best modern combat turn based strategy games available on the Xbox currently, possibly the only one.
Blasting away with your custom band of mercenaries as you take on the Legion's forces certainly has its high points. One area that can be a little tricky and the most time a saved game has been loaded ever is when trying to perform a stealth kill, especially in real time when enemies are moving freely.
Here's a step by step guide on how to perform a stealth takedown in Jagged Alliance 3 without getting spotted by the other enemies or beaten up by your intended target.
Step by step guide to performing stealth kills in normal time
Trying to do this in normal time can get scary compared to the relaxed turn-based mode you are used to when entering combat in the usual way.
Best method to perform a stealth kill in normal time is as follows:
Scope out the targets for a bit and see what they are up to
Isolate a single enemy you can reach without being spotted
Make sure they are not being watched by any other enemy troops in the area
Pre-select the stealth weapon you will use. This could be melee knife, machete etc
With the melee knife selected you can give the order to stealth kill the enemy BEFORE you get close
When you move your character in range, next to the target, the stealth kill will be performed automatically
Ideallly you want something that will take all their health points in one hit so there will be no "follow up" with the target screaming for his mates and firing off his gun in a less than stealthy manner
If the stealth kill is performed successfully, the game will stay in normal time mode, no alarms will be raised and you can continue to loot the equipment or move your troops into position.
Why should I put myself through the tension of a stealth kill when I have 6 perfectly good guns here?
Although a stealth kill may be a tense affair in Jagged Alliance 3 - creeping up on an enemy, waiting for them to turn around at any moment - the rewards are well worth it if you can pull it off.
Ideally you can keep going and take out each enemy silently without ever being spotted and nobody ever knowing you were there. This is how Kyle "Shadow" Simmons would do it - one of the best characters from the original 90's game making a well received reappearance for this excellent sequel.
Of course we can't all be cool operators like the fictional Shadow and will no doubt panic at some stage, press the wrong button and have most of your team bump into the enemy soldiers clumsily and embarrassingly, if you are playing in coop mode.
However, even if you can take out 2 or 3 soldiers in this way, the odds are swung dramatically in your favour.
For example, a map with only 6 enemies can cause problems on Jagged Alliance 3 if they all start blasting at your favourite character who has just been healed or dragged across from another fight.
If you can take a few out silently this removes them from the fight completely with no shots fired. This allows you to position your soldiers in an effective ambush and when it does kick off, shooting 3 guys will be a relatively easy task for your tooled up bunch of 80's throwback mercenaries.
